Israel Ski Dome

After Ski Dubai, the Arabian Peninsula is next!!!

Sha'ar HaGilboa Center
is the name of the future ski dome that Israel is to get in 2009. It is to be located an hour and a half from Tel Aviv. This in not the largest,or unique project, but is the first ski dome on the Mediterranean.

The ski resort is to spread over 375 acres, with 320 m long ski trail, which is not very large.Skiers will be transported by gondolas and besides night skiing, there will also be a ski school. Stores and other tourist facilities will also be a part of the offer.

Investors believe that the ski dome will be Israel's biggest attraction and a strong stimulus for the region's tourism growth. The project is worth USD 20 million.

Still, there is no much information about this project!!!

Ski Dubai

Can you imagine skiing in the middle of the desert on the real snow?

(Its not all about sun,and beaches in Dubai)

Ski Dubai in Dubai Emirates Mall started in December 2005 is the worlds third largest indoor ski slope, which covers an amazing 22,500 square meters covered with real snow all year round. Ski Dubai resort is the first Dubai indoor ski slope to open.

"Snow in the desert is such a unique experience for locals who have never seen snow," said Ski Dubai's chief executive, Phil Taylor.

Snow is made using a simple procedure similar to how snow is artificially made at outdoor ski resorts. Pure water, with no chemicals added, is put through a chiller to cool.

It is then sent through pipes to the snow guns which are on the ceiling. When the cooled water is blown out into a freezing cold environment it crystallizes and makes snow. The temperature during the time when snow is made is -7c to -8c. The final product is real snow, as if it came from nature!

The Ski Dubai facility is specially designed as a massive cold box. The walls have numerous levels of insulation and the roof is 5 meters higher than the ceiling providing very efficient insulation. This makes Ski Dubai one of the best refrigerators in the world!

There are 23 blast coolers (air conditioner type machines) that chill the air and maintain a temperature of -1c during operating hours.

There are also kilometers of glycol tubing running through the floor (similar to the back of your refrigerator) that chills the snow keeping the base of the snow solid and 30 tons of fresh snow is made daily to cover the base.

In Ski Dubai the safety and comfort of all guests is of prime importance. Guests are advised to intimate themselves with the rules and regulations of the resort and stick to them all the time. The guests and the staffs are shown proper respect and conduct. Proper conduct and respect for other guests and staff is expected from the guests too. Ski Dubai draws innumerable guests the year round. Ski Dubai in UAE is an integral part of Sport and Recreation in Dubai.

Not only breathtaking Dubai property, but also Ski Dubai has caught the imagination of the world, and it has attracted a lot of media coverage.

And yet there are plenty of other snowdromes around the world and the technique of creating a sub-zero environment isn't revolutionary. Really, it's just a giant refrigerator. But the attraction here is the contrast between the sweltering outside temperature and normal temperature inside!

The Ski Dubai attraction in Dubai is another one of the Sheikhs attempts to get Dubai and property in Dubai on the map as being one of the top tourists and investing areas in the world. A ski slope in Dubai is unbelievable but yet a reality. It makes Dubai a place that has everything to offer. The Dubai ski dome will also ultimately come in Dubai's favor for when they will make a bid for the Olympics because no one can now object that due to Dubai's climate there is no snow there!

get ready for avalanche situation!!

An avalanche is an abrupt and rapid flow of snow, often mixed with air and water, down a mountainside. Avalanches are among the biggest dangers in the mountains for both life and property.

Skiers are endangered too.Lot of avalanches hit the snow ski slopes every year. Here are few tips how to protect yourself.

Tune in!
Check the weather forecast
for your ski place and risk of avalanches ,ask in your hotel,or in ski place HQ.Or you can use radio,TV, or web.

Chances are you can get most of the pertinent information you need regarding areas to avoid before you even set out. And remember, weather conditions can always change throughout the day, so be sure to keep your eyes and ears out for avalanche information as it becomes available.

Look for Signs: It's not uncommon for avalanches to occur in the same place twice.
If you know that an area was affected by an avalanche, it's probably a good indication to avoid this spot. Additionally, avoid any areas underneath an avalanche.

The condition of the snow is also an important factor. If the snow feels hollow, makes loud or creaking noises, or is thawing at an extreme rate (if you can squeeze water from a snowball), you're in a potentially dangerous area.

Finally, avalanches are more common after a major snowfall. While more snow often makes for better skiing, it also makes for higher risks of avalanches.

Pay attention to these signs, get information from employees and other skiers, and keep you eyes and ears open.

Also, don't ski out of the marked slopes.Snow are may be great, but you life is more valuable.

Steer Clear of Slopes Between 30 and 45 degrees: While this is the grade of steepness in which avalanches are most common, they can still occur on more gentle slopes or unstable areas.
While skiers should be sure to steer clear of these steepcc slopes, other precautions should certainly be taken into consideration.

Avalanches our most often on east-facing slopes that are heavily loaded with snow from the wind
.

Also keep your eyes out for cornices, which are overhanging wave-like formations of snow that could potentially give way and cause snow to pile up.

Equip Yourself: If you plan on traveling out of bounds and in avalanche terrain, it's a good idea to carry an avalanche beacon.

In the event that someone in your party would end up in a potentially dangerous situation, this device will allow others to set their beacons to locate the buried victim's direction and distance (older models will beep as a rescuer gets closer to the victim).

Most of equipment(especially boots and jackets) are equipped with emergency beacon (Recco-avalanche rescue system) that helps to find if victim is buried under the avalanche or in the glacier crevase .

And the most important thing:

1. If you see that avalanche is headed your way and you cannot escape,DON'T PANIC!!!

2.Throw you skis, and ski poles away, and anything that can hurt you!!!

3.Lie down and hold fetus position!!!

4.Remember that if you are buried under the avalanche you have aproximatly 30 min of oxygen for breathing.

choosing right sunglases for skiing

Sunglasses are one of the most important part in your snow ski equipment.
They are protecting your eyes and improving snow ski vision. They are normally tinted in order to reduce sun glare, which happens to twice as during winter since snow reflects light. They also protecting you from the UV rays, which can make seriously damage to your eyes and skin. You can't ski without ski glasses

Kinds of sunglases

Sunglasses come in three kinds: glacier sunglasses, skiing and snowboarding, and polarized.

Glacier sunglasses filter as much as 90% of sunlight and are ideal for activities involving prolonged sunlight exposure like glacier walking and cross-country skiing, normally with side covers to shield from UV rays and also prevent the wind from getting into the eyes.

They are not good for fast ski runs.

Skiing and snowboarding sunglasses, on the other hand, are great for activities that involve rough and fast movements, such as ski racing and snowboarding, made up of lenses that protect from bumps and impact and they must be very durable with the headband attachment,so they cannot fall off.

Polarized sunglasses are fitted with specialized lenses that reduces glare while at the same time maintaining clear vision, typically used in the mid-afternoon or extremely bright days where sunlight is at its strongest.

Buying tips

When you're buying sunglasses for skiing, here are a few things to take note of:

UV protection: Make sure that your sunglasses provide at least 95% protection from UVA and UVB rays, most especially if you'll be spending a lot of time outdoors. Long-term UV exposure can lead to very serious and permanent eye damage.

Lenses: Choose lenses made of polycarbonate because they are shatter-proof and offer wide UV protection. They might be more expensive but will outperform cheaper lenses, which translates to a good investment in the long-run. Additionally, rose or yellow-orange tints enhance contrast and provide effective glare reduction.

Durability: Choose sunglasses made particularly for winter use. Summer sunglasses tend to fog up and sometimes can even crack from the old, giving you insufficient protection.

Peripheral vision: Look for wide, wraparound lenses offering 180-degree views of the slope. Wind and sun shields should protect the eyes but must still maintain full vision.

I use Scott sunglasses ,and i can tell you that they are excellent. They fit very good, and they are for all weather conditions because i can switching lenses. You can see that this sunglasses are professional skier's choice.
